SALARY $71,302 - $112,320 annualized.
EXPERIENCE The ideal candidate will have a minimum five years of responsible experience in all phases of wastewater collection systems management, operations, maintenance, and construction activities, including three years in a progressively responsible management level capacity, and a bachelor's degree in public administration, business administration, chemical, civil, or sanitary engineering, or a related field. Other combinations of water industry experience and education that meet the minimum qualifications may be substituted.
DUTIES The Wastewater Collection Superintendent directs the technical inspections, maintenance, and repair of the City's wastewater collection system. The incumbent exercises considerable independent judgment in administering, managing, and supervising programs, activities, and functions related to the construction, extension, inspection, operation, and maintenance of the wastewater collection system. Professional management and administrative practices are applied when solving problems in the operation, maintenance, and expansion of the collection system. There is one current vacancy in the Water Services Department.
The Wastewater Collection Division maintains efficient and economical collection service to consumers through intermediate levels of supervision assigned to the operations and maintenance of specific areas and/or functions of the division and the wastewater collection system. Responsibility is exercised over a staff of approximately 170 employees and a division budget of approximately $18 million. The wastewater collection system of the City of Phoenix consists of 4,700 miles of sanitary sewers, 90,000 manholes/cleanouts, 27 wastewater lift stations, and 415,000 service connections within a 518 square mile service area.
ALSO REQUIRED Possession of a Grade 4 Wastewater Collection System Operator Certification from the Arizona State Department of Environmental Quality is required by the end of probation. Must be available on a 24-hour basis to cover emergency situations.
RESIDENCE Maricopa County residency is required within 24 months after the date of hire and must be maintained.
