SALARY $71,302 - $112,320 annualized.

EXPERIENCE The ideal candidate will have a minimum five years of responsible experience in all phases of water distribution system management, operations, maintenance, and construction activities, including three years in a progressively responsible management level capacity, and a bachelor's degree in public administration, business administration, mechanical, civil, or sanitary engineering, or a related field. Other combinations of water industry experience and education that meet the minimum qualifications may be substituted.

DUTIES The Water Distribution Superintendent plans, coordinates, directs, and supervises the management, operation, maintenance, repair, and construction activities of the City's Water Distribution Division. The incumbent exercises considerable independent judgment in analyzing business practices, evaluating work progress and efficiency of equipment and facilities, reviewing progress of projects, supervising the development of methods and procedures to increase efficiency of construction and operations and maintenance activities, and developing and administering budgets. Professional management and administrative practices are applied when solving problems in the operation, maintenance, and expansion of the water distribution system. There is one current vacancy in the Water Services Department.

The Water Distribution Division maintains efficient and economical water distribution system service to customers through intermediate levels of supervision assigned to the operations and maintenance of specific areas and/or functions of the division and the water distribution system. Responsibility is exercised over a staff of approximately 260 employees and a division budget of approximately $40 million. The City of Phoenix water distribution system consists of 6,600 miles of water mains, 110,000 valves, 48,000 fire hydrants, 350 remote water facilities (groundwater wells, storage tanks, reservoirs, booster stations, remote chlorination facilities, etc.) and 394,000 service connections within a 540 square mile service area.

ALSO REQUIRED Possession of a Grade 4 Water Distribution System Operator Certification from the Arizona State Department of Environmental Quality is required by the end of probation. Must be available on a 24-hour basis to cover emergency situations.

RESIDENCE Maricopa County residency is required within 24 months after the date of hire and must be maintained.
